"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
Hebrews 13:2
"Now
faith is the substance of things hoped for - The evidence of things not seen."
Hebrews 11:1
A belief in angels has been a recurring theme amongst diverse cultures throughout history. Our fascination with angels has managed to survive the Scientific Age as science has failed to answer some of our most important questions.
Does God exist? Is there life after death? What is Heaven like? Does man have an immortal soul?
If our nature is truly spiritual, wouldn't other levels of spiritual beings also exist?
Whether Angels have wings or look in appearance like we do, the idea of a guardian angel or spiritual guide gives comfort to many in time of need. There have been countless stories of the dying seeing Angels before passing away.
Through the myths of Dante and Milton and the stories of the Archangel Michael and Lucifer that the Bible tells, Angels have become strong archetypes in our consciousness that continue to draw us to stories about Angels.
When it comes to a belief in angels, Samuel Butler put it best when he said, "all reason is against it, and all healthy instinct is for it."
Whether you see angels as an act of faith, or hope - or happen to be one of the many people who have experienced their own angel encounter, I think that you'll find this site will include something of interest for you.

upstairs. This story, and many more like it will refresh your faith and remind you of God's never-ending presence and love. |

| With
silence only as their benediction God's angels come where, in the shadow of a great affliction, the soul sits dumb. James Greenleaf Whittier |
|
For those who like fiction, I recommend:
| Set in a society founded as an egalitarian utopia but now tainted with vices and inequity, Sharon Shinn's love story is plotty and calamitous. Rachel and Gabriel have nothing in common beyond wishing that the god Jovah had ordained they wed other people, yet they must cooperate in singing a mass to the god on the occasion of Gabriel's elevation to Archangel. Upright Gabriel has enemies among both mortal and angelic peoples who prefer to risk world destruction over his restoration of the old order. | |
| When the reigning Archangel is grounded with a broken wing, Jovah chooses her successor. Alleluia, a solitary scholar of undistinguished lineage. Now the fate of the planet rests with the reluctant Archangel Alleluia, who believes in her duty and her god. And her fate, in turn, may well depend on a mortal man who believes only in science--and himself. |
Classic Literature
This beautiful hardcover edition of Dante's wonderful classic would make a great gift or a valuable edition to your own library.
| The most melodic and atmospheric examples of Enya's lovely Celtic-flavored songwriting shine on this disc. Those unfamiliar with the former Clannad member will find charm in such sweet lullabies as "Marble Halls" and "China Roses" while delighting in the more energetic "Book of Days," "Storms in Africa," and "Caribbean Blue." Overall, an outstanding collection from an artist who gives New Age a good name. |
Millions
of spiritual creatures walk the earth,
unseen, both when we wake and when we sleep ...
Milton, Paradise Lost
|
|
An angel, who longs to know more about human beings and finds himself attracted to a hard-working female doctor, decides to sacrifice his heavenly status and fall to earth so he can experience love. Americanization of Wim Wenders' haunting WINGS OF DESIRE is--by the very nature of American movie conventions--less ethereal than the original film, but still intriguing and in its own way romantic. |

Fallen (1998) |
The Prophecy (1995) |
Michael (1997) |
| Philadelphia homicide cop investigates
brutal copycat murders--but is slow to realize that there may be an explanation beyond the
normal for how and why these deaths are being executed. Hybrid of supernatural and
cop-thriller genres doesn't pay off, despite creepy atmosphere and solid performances. For
one thing, it takes much too long to get where it's going... for another, the finale
subverts the film's own "ground rules. ''
|
Seminarian Koteas abandons the church
during his own ordination to become... a homicide cop. Soon he's investigating why Stoltz
has murdered an eyeless hermaphrodite with the physiological profile of an aborted fetus.
There's either too much mumbo or too much jumbo in this oddball horror pic. Give it
perverse points, though, for managing to work in a Korean War subplot and for casting
Walken as the Angel Gabriel. Followed by a sequel. Super 35.

John Travolta literally spreads his wings
in this tale of a slightly sinful archangel plopped down in Iowa. The cocky cherub's
mission of healing frequently takes a back seat to his delight in such earthly pleasures
as dancing, smoking, and drinking, but ultimately his divine duty wins out. As the film's
tag line states, "He's an angel... Not a saint."

I will not wish thee riches, nor the glow of greatness,
but that wherever thou go some weary heart shall
gladden at thy smile,
or shadowed life know sunshine for a while
And so thy path shall be a track of light,
like angels' footsteps passing through the night.
