The
question of what happens to us at death cannot be divorced from our questions about the
nature of life itself.
Man's unique capacity for self-contemplation has also brought us to an awareness of our own mortality. This has lead to fear and grief and a search for answers about that ultimate unknown.
This is a question that will never be fully answered until we meet that fate which is common for us all.
There are those, however, who through inspiration or experience have gotten a hint of what might lie ahead. Their stories resound with a certain truth, a sense of something remembered.
I hope you find something here that will inspire or perhaps comfort. Not all have the gift a faith, but there's always hope.

Visitations from the
Afterlife : True Stories of Love and Healingby Lee Lawson (Editor), Clarissa Pinkola Estes It has been estimated that over 70 million people from all walks of life and all areas of the globe have experienced a reunion with a loved one from the afterlife, according to author Lee Lawson. "Why then are these visitations usually kept secret, told to a very few trusted friends or to no at all?" she asks. In breaking the silence, Lawson offers great solace and companionship for readers who have received a visitation or deeply yearn for one. Not only does she provide well-researched and sensitive overviews of why visitations occur--often to comfort or guide the living--she also offers numerous personal stories of visitations from around the world. Indeed, it is hard not to weep over these tender accounts written in the first person. Yet the tears are not of sadness, since the stories are all framed within a context of joy and gratitude, having discovered that even after the loss of a loved one, there is still an everlasting connection. Chapters include "Grief: To Soothe a Grieving Heart," "Returning: A Sacred Promise," and "Making Peace: Forgiveness and Reconciliation." --Tara West |

The Other Side and Back: A Psychic's Guide to Our World and
Beyond by Sylvia Browne (Contributor), Melvin L. Morse Hardcover - 279 pages (August 1999) Also available on Audio Cassette
|
In this upbeat look at a world that isn't as far removed from us as we might think, Sylvia Browne answers the big questions we all ask at one point or another: "What are angels?" "What happens when we die?" and "What are ghosts?" While The Other Side and Back may pacify your curiosity about the spirit realm, it also offers a cure to the cynicism that plagues us every day. Surprisingly, this book feels much more personal than Browne's biographical Adventures of a Psychic, perhaps because of the conversational, first-person narrative that brings the spirit world down to earth without diminishing its uniqueness. --Brian Patterson |

What a great book. Lots of information about life. After reading I have connected more to GOD. I have become more spiritual and have now communicated with my spirit guide. I also have learned to touch my psychic abilities. Sylvia has changed my life for the better, no more dogma. Life isn't easy but she made it bearable. Thank you Sylvia for this book, for the church you started, for your son Christopher, for sending the white light to me and saving my life. Love you Sylvia Browne! Thanks GOD for a wonderful person. |

After the tragic death of his wife, Paul Novak threw himself into the study of the evidence for the soul's survival after the death of the body. Drawing on mythology, psychology, religion and science, as well as past-lief regression and near death experiences, Novak concludes that the human psyche not only survives, but also divides at death, with the conscious mind reincarnating and the subconscious mind judging itself. This startling conclusion not only explains the differences between many of the world's great religions, but also shows that humanity's intuitions about the soul's survival has a reality separate and distinct from the mind's philosophical conflicts. The Division Of Consciousness is informative, challenging, engaging, controversial, and exceptionally well written. |
Reaching to Heaven : A Spiritual Journey Through Life
and Death |
Professional medium James Van Praagh (Talking to Heaven) offers a guidebook for the living, which charts the course of the soul as it journeys through life, death, and rebirth. Beyond his psychic gifts, Van Praagh has a gift for simplifying complex spiritual ideas and writing about them in a conversational tone. Most appealing for Van Praagh fans are his detailed theories on death and the afterlife. For example, when people die sudden deaths, Van Praagh reports, spirits of the dead often linger over their bodies, unable to comprehend what has happened (but still able to see and hear everything that is being done and said around the corpse). This is why spirits of the already-deceased are so useful in helping the dead transition to the other side. |
Echoes of the
Soul : The Souls Journey Beyond the Light Through Life, Death, and Life After Death
by Echo L. Bodine |
Experiencing
the Soul : Before Birth, During Life, After Death by Eliot Rosen (Editor), Ellen Burstyn |
| Renowned psychic Echo Bodine speaks to the life and afterlife of the soul. In the beginning, Bodine addresses life in heaven, shedding her psychic gleanings on the different "levels" of the soul, starting with level one ("totally self-absorbed") through level five (those who "understand the oneness with all of creation and with God"). From here Bodine enters into discussions on the soul's being sent to earth for birth, or "going back to school." Life is considered "the school on earth." And death is our "graduation." | A comprehensive anthology of interviews on the ways people experience the soul during earth-life, before birth, and at the moment of death, and after death, this book contains the thoughts of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, the Dalai Lama, astronaut Edgar Mitchell, Raymond Moody, Jean Houston, Dannion Brinkley, Betty Eadie, Ram Dass, and over two dozen other pioneering authorities and first-hand soul experiencers. . |

The Light Beyond by Raymond A. Moody
|
Reunions : Visionary Encounters With Departed Loved Ones by Raymond, M.D. Moody, Paul |
It has been a decade since the publication of Dr. Moody's landmark bestseller, Life After Life, and since he coined the term "near-death experience", or NDE. Today, Dr. Moody has studied more than a thousand new case histories of adults and children who have clinically reached the point of death and survived, and extraordinary new research has revealed more patterns of NDEs. Now, for the first time, Dr. Moody presents this wealth of new information to the general public information that uncovers secrets and opens the doors to a powerful message of love from the frontier between life and death. |
Will the first medical doctor to establish a scientific basis for near-death experiences be able to bring the same sort of legitimacy to visionary encounters? He hopes so. Thanks initially to Moody's best-selling Life after Life (1981), those now-familiar characteristics of the near-death experience--the tunnel; the bright, white light; the sightings of dead relatives--have become part of popular culture. Now Moody's here to offer another breakthrough: you don't have to be hit by a truck to see the dear departed. |
|
The skeptics have had their say; now
listen to the experts. In hundreds of interviews with children who had once been declared
clinically dead, Dr. Morse found that children too young to have absorbed our adult views
and ideas of death, share first-hand accounts of out-of-body travel, telepathic
communication and encounters with dead friends and relatives. Finally illuminating what it
is like to die, here is proof that there is that elusive "something" that
survives "bodily death." "New information on what may await us after death...Responsible, highly readable, and certainly thought-provoking." |
|
This provocative bestseller by the authors of Closer to the Light details the powerful effect of near-death experiences on people's lives. Based on the results of the largest such study ever done, Morse and Perry have found that people return from the brink of death profoundly changed for the better--spiritually and physically. The continuation of a comforting, yet scientific, probe into the mysteries of death, which began in Closer to the Light, reveals that people who have had Near Death Experiences manifest a heightened appetite for life. |
| On September 17, 1975, after being electrocuted by a bolt of lightning, Dannion Brinkley died. When he revived 28 minutes later in the morgue, he had the story of a lifetime to tell--a profoundly moving account of a near-death experience. "A compelling vision of what it's like to die and, more important, how to live."--Dr. Melvin Morse (Closer to the Light). |
|
| In At Peace in the Light, Dannion Brinkley continues the spiritual exploration of his life and death that began in his phenomenal bestseller, Saved by the Light. Having had two near-death experiences, one of which lasted twenty-eight minutes, Brinkley has been left with an extraordinary sense of perception. With absolute candor, he describes his struggle to become accustomed to his disorienting physic ability -- he reveals his initial uses, both positive negative, of his power and his gradual understanding of how to accomplish his mission. |

Lucid Dreaming
"Dreaming is not just having dreams, neither is it daydreaming or wishing or imagining. Through dreaming we can perceive other worlds, which we can certainly describe, but we can't describe what makes us perceive them. Yet we can feel how dreaming opens up those other realms. Dreaming seems to be a sensation - a process in our bodies, an awareness in our minds."
